I've recovered some fantastic vintage wool items that had been stored for over a decade in a teak crate with literally dozens of BOXES of mothballs. After being hung outside all summer, some of them were still too smelly (and presumably toxic) to wear. I had my doubts that any laundry additive would help. I soaked the first garment in a few quarts of water for a few days, maybe with a cup of OdorKlenz (shaking it occasionally), dried it really well (it still smelled so bad I got in trouble for poisoning the bathroom) and then tossed it in the wash itself with regular detergent and another half glass of OdorClenz. I washed it in warm water even though it was wool because I figured everything would go bad if the smell still didn't come out. After a roll in the dryer with no heat and a day laying flat to dry, I stuck my nose in the wool and was surprised it didn't smell AT ALL. It will be well worth the modest expense of rescuing these fabulous items that don't seem to be attacked by moths. just lingering migraine-inducing chemicals. I will buy again!
