I've had a history of ulcers and have read online that using oral care products that contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) can help. Without expecting much I switched to a non-SLS toothpaste and my ulcer count went down immediately - I used to get about one a month and now I haven't had them for many years. Some natural SLS-free toothpastes are too gentle and don't clean teeth well, leading to staining and plaque. Powersmile has enough cleaning power to make my dental check-ups easier. The only downside is that Powersmile does not contain fluoride. I understand this is helpful for some people, but I'd rather get some extra fluoride. I compensate with a mouthwash that contains it.
