Great price but be aware of how you intend to use it

Idea on how to use the camera and light. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase but I can clearly see how this kit can work for some people and not others so I'll group it into cons and pros and my final recommendation on who should and shouldn't buy it. t. . Pros: - Price. Hard to believe you can get this set at this price. racks. I am very impressed with their quality; Lightweight and well-crafted aluminum, durable clips and bases, and a 1/4 screw on top make them useful for just about any application: you can attach a flash mount, camera ball head, or clip to attach whatever you need. - You get all kinds of umbrellas: white, silver and gold. - Continuous light mounts seem ok, they are plastic but this is some kind of HDP. - The color temperature of the bulb is excellent, almost a perfect neutral white. - In general, the kit is very light, everything, including the case, is very convenient to carry. Cons: The reflective properties of umbrellas are not very good. I don't have a high-precision light meter to confirm this, but I can clearly see significant transmission loss as the light bounces off them. For gold/silver I would say 30% performance loss due to light absorption and a translucent screen is almost useless, in a transparent application you easily lose over 50%. It said; if instead you aim at the back of the umbrella and let the light bounce off the white umbrella; the transmission is much better and the shadow produced is not terrible; however, significantly harder than transparent ones. Lightbulbs are massive and heat up very quickly. While their performance and temperature are great, I don't think you can keep them on for too long. I've had one on for 10 minutes and it gets pretty hot, so it's safe to assume you can't keep these bulbs on for more than 20 minutes per session, which is a bit of an overstatement. I also assume that wearing them for too long makes them more likely to die much sooner. - The carrying case is good but looks flaky, I can see the handle eventually breaking due to use. Who do I recommend this to? - People who want to use a SHORT-LONG (<30 m) continuous medium-power light source for videos or photos. You want an inexpensive set of coasters and umbrellas with the added option of continuous light, but plan on using this with monolights or strobes (like mine). Highly recommend, it's a bargain. - You're learning studio lighting for the first time and don't want to spend a fortune. - You want to shoot SHORT videos (<10 mins) and want a decent lighting setup Don't buy this if: - You want it to record long videos unless you switch to using the high power LEDs and use the im Included in delivery for shorter applications. - Professional use. The lightweight mounts are nice, but they don't seem built for heavy use. Same goes for the case and bulbs, I think they overheat too quickly and either die or become a fire hazard. Lightbulbs and their sockets are clearly not designed for outdoor use.

Cons
  • The packaging is ugly
