that saved our lives. American Eskimos bark horribly but are very intelligent. He figured it out very quickly and I don't even wear it anymore. but he knows what it is. I only need to reach him when he looks like he's about to bark and pull himself together. I was always afraid of "breaking" it. Become one of those docile beings that some types of training emphasize. Absolutely no problem. Same wonderful, funny, mischievous, and headstrong dog, but now he understands that excessive barking is a no-go. I wish I had succumbed to a shock idea many years ago. The progressive character was the key I think. then a shock sets in (which NEVER seems to have done him any harm. Just an annoyed look). I don't know if less intelligent dogs would do the same, but smart ones do it right. A 5th star would have been given if the batteries were easier to find (I may never need them but that worries me).
