I hired operators to bring an Aperture 120D to the set which works well and is well built. But like most other LED video lights, it has a massive ballast and controller. All have to be connected via wires, making the light kit gigantic, not portable at all and very difficult to set up. For someone who constantly flies to shoot, the ability to pack gear into cases is just huge. I have a Goddox SLB 60w which is very similar to a visor light but is MUCH more portable and faster to set up thanks to the battery and doesn't require a ballast/controller to set up but has one major downside. Its fans are so loud that the light cannot be staged with no amount of dialogue. This is why on YouTube you can find people posting videos of installing updated silent fans in them. This GVM light is slightly brighter than Goddox, a faint whisper so faint you have to strain to hear it with your ear next to it. , much smaller, lighter, slightly more accurate in color rendering, cheaper, doesn't require a large ballast and external controller and is therefore better in almost every measurable way. The only drawback is the lack of a side display with brightness information. It has a very simple grip. The positive side of the slider is that you can get the brightness output very quickly and the downside is that it's harder to reproduce the brightness values from it when you turn it off since you're turning it off via the dimmer control. I am planning to sell my other 5 LED lights to replace with a few more. You are very impressive.
