OK, you just purchased a new monitor, and it has an HDMI port. You look at your PC and notice it has a Display Port.Maybe you are savvy enough to know that digital signals are crispier than analog. So, you disconnect the VGA cord and replace it with this new cable. But, no sound!Unplug the new cable from the monitor, and suddenly you hear sound from your external speakers. However, you now have no video on your monitor. WTF?Don't panic. In many cases this is simply a "settings" issue. Your computer might be defaulting to the improved HDMI connection. However, your monitor might not have speakers; or your display port might not have the capability to transmit audio signals.Reconnect the cable. Video should return. And sound will be muted. Click on the audio icon at bottom right of screen and access preferences (defaults). Make external speakers the default source for audio. Do not choose "auto-detect."Hope this helps. If it doesn't work, go ahead and reconnect the traditional VGA cord. Sound and Video should play as before. If not, shut down computer and restart to give it a chance to recognize changes. Most people won't notice the big difference between VGA and HDMI. So, just be happy until you get a newer PC that supports HDMI with audio feed. Don't send cable back for refund.Keep the HDMI/Display cable in that box of stuff you might later use; or which your grandkids might find fascinating (such as VCR recorders, digital tv converter boxes, yellow page directories, and library books.)
