Not necessarily just for the aquarium.
I wanted to add some color to the ceiling of my tiki bar and it worked. The black light doesn't bother them at night. The colors are bright and of different lengths. They each have a rock base to keep them on the bottom of the tank. I removed them to attach to the ceiling. Very happy with them.
