We put our regular grains in (barley, millet, brown basmati rice, oatmeal) - we'll probably buy another set so we can add others. for flax and quinoa. These are nice heavy containers with a pretty decent lid. The containers look great on a countertop or as decoration on open shelves (they're a bit more expensive for my taste just to put them in a cupboard, but it's probably better to use beans that won't spoil). you get used to the light just as quickly) the lids are very nice and the heavy glass is nice. They can be folded if needed but they are big and heavy I would be afraid of tipping them over. The opening is wide enough to scoop in a 1/2 or 1/4 cup measuring cup or they can be used for pouring, but they're a bit unwieldy due to the weight. In any case, it is worthwhile for us to store the beans in their original packaging. Oh I'm guessing they probably hold 3-4 pounds of most grains, we had some leftovers in 5 pound bags that we put in.
