Using this on a copper nickel brake line will require a bit of experimentation, especially if you are using 3/16. This tool was designed for steel brake lines and will probably work well with them (I haven't tried it) but you will have some wrinkling problems if you don't adjust the length of brake line you put in the tool. The instructions say to insert the brake line until it touches the depth gauge and then tighten the clamp. If you are using 3/16" line you need to be about 1/8" from the depth gauge before it flares out or it will wrinkle. The problem is that as you step back, your bell loses surface area and may not close properly. I ended up not being able to create a decent flare with this 3/16 inch copper nickel tool. The 1/4" tool actually works very well with copper-nickel line as long as you stay about 1/16" away from the depth gauge. . I believe this is because the 1/4 inch line is stronger due to its larger size compared to 3/16 inch. It also helps to chamfer the inside and outside diameter of your brake line so it slides better in the die. If you experiment with a length of copper-nickel cord, you'll generally get a good torch with 1/4" cord, but 3/16" cord will be a problem.
