Description of 🔧 Lang Tools 279-5420 279 Brake Caliper Press: The Ultimate Solution for Efficient Brake Caliper Maintenance

Works on twin and quad piston fixed calipers, as well as single and twin piston floating calipers. Centrally located ratchet evenly spreads force in a parallel manner to prevent misalignment of pistons. Ratchet technology gives a full 360 degree swing so that the spreader may be placed at any position. Extended reversing lever allows for easy change from spreading to retracting. Made in the USA. Works on calipers from 1.7" to 3".

Works great on Lexus 4 piston calipers

Worked well on my wife's GS350 and was much faster than the old c-clamp method. The construction seemed solid and I don't think it will break anytime soon. It takes a little resistance to stretch, but I only did it by hand before inserting it into the caliper.

  • Easy to use

Damn, this is so easy to use.

So easy to use, no hassle I can't believe it took me this long for a tool that can get the job done without damaging the caliper pistons. It's a little tricky to keep the plates off the BC press. They rotate when the initial pressure on the caliper is insufficient. Once you understand this simple step, everything after that is easy. I take small time steps to allow the liquid to return to the reservoir. Excellent purchase

Great Gadget: Brake Breeding Tools

I worked as a brake technician for a local Meinekes store for a while and got two and four piston calipers a lot, so I ended up paying for this pup and let me just tell you anything; they are breasts. I've never met a caliper it wouldn't fit in. And I like the ratchet. Highly recommended. UPDATE: June 22, 2019 It's still boobs. There were no complaints about it and I decided to check it out. Good product. Would definitely buy again.

Cons
  • Not Everything Fits

Skip the Tool Cart (Bluepoint by Snap-On) and Buy Direct from the Manufacturer and Save $$$. Lang is one of the brands that rebrands many tool trolleys for even higher markups. Very handy tool when space permits. Not always suitable when the caliper is small or the piston is too far away. Definitely more comfortable than a conventional hand-wound caliper. The ratchet takes some time to get used to as it won't always rotate unless you hold the center still while it sags (consider rotating the…

Fantastic Tool!: Tools & Equipment

No more fiddling with clamps and pieces of wood! Of course, this is a more expensive option compared to cheaper alternatives, this thing feels premium. I have several other Lang tools and they are actually very good. Made in the good old USA! It feels like the Snap-On is literally rebranded with a custom grip and retails for $220. It's a pretty good weight, but it works great! Resets my two piston calipers completely evenly, eliminating air escaping due to misaligned pistons and guesswork. I…

Changing pads becomes a breeze, especially with multi-piston calipers

There's nothing wrong with using a C-clamp and one of the old piston-squeezing pads or one of the cheap piston compressors, but this is it The tool is great for calipers with more than 2 pistons and it really helped speed things up with my 4 piston calipers. With single-piston calipers I'm not sure how much this really helps, but the ease of setup is a bonus, and overall it's a lot quicker than using a C-clamp or those bolt-on caliper extensions. With a large pad hitting all 4 pistons at once…

Lang Tools 279 caliper press . Where have you been all my life?

Lang Tools 279 Caliper Press . Where have you been all my life? I bought a Lang Tools 279 caliper press to replace all 4 discs and pads on a 2010 Acura TL AWD. For 20 years I have always used the proven C-clamp technology when changing the brake pads on all my vehicles. but this tool makes the job much easier. especially with four pistons. The ratcheting action is smooth and easier to use. Highly loaded pressure plates distribute pressure evenly to the caliper pistons. No more fiddling with…

Great braking tool!

Where has it been all my life!? I don't know how or why I haven't bought one of these before. I've spent almost 20 years replacing pads and rotors myself and have always used fingers or a clamp to push the pistons back in. Tool so I don't scratch the paint on the calipers. This tool is so easy to use and so effective that I feel like an idiot for not buying it 20 years ago. As said, there is a surface load/pressure required to engage or disengage the ratchet, but that just means squeezing it…

Please note: tool manifold plates require resistance to extend and retract.

I bought this because of the many rave reviews with 5 stars. Conceptually, you twist the handle in one direction and the pads ratchet apart. Flip the switch and flip the handle the other way to connect the pads. The tool is a quality piece of thick metal. The main issue not allowing a 5 star rating is that force must be applied to both spacers for the ratchet to engage. For example, if you put a tool into a caliper with the piston partially retracted, you might think that the ratchet is…
