Review on πŸ”§ Lang Tools 279-5420 279 Brake Caliper Press: The Ultimate Solution for Efficient Brake Caliper Maintenance by Gary Perry

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Changing pads becomes a breeze, especially with multi-piston calipers

There's nothing wrong with using a C-clamp and one of the old piston-squeezing pads or one of the cheap piston compressors, but this is it The tool is great for calipers with more than 2 pistons and it really helped speed things up with my 4 piston calipers. With single-piston calipers I'm not sure how much this really helps, but the ease of setup is a bonus, and overall it's a lot quicker than using a C-clamp or those bolt-on caliper extensions. With a large pad hitting all 4 pistons at once, you simply slide the tool into the caliper and start spinning with a goofy grin on your face because you ended up squeezing all the pistons simultaneously and evenly in about 15 seconds. The only annoying thing about this tool is that the plates spin freely so it can be a little painful to line everything up before the pistons are compressed when trying to hold the pads in place. But once you start pushing, it stays where it's supposed to stay. The tool feels overly complicated and the plates are thick and strong. The ratchets work well and have excellent tactile and audible feedback. Without a doubt, this is a buy-once-for-life type tool.
