After reading all the negative reviews online about Phosguard causing problems with aluminum flushing in reef tanks, I was very hesitant to use it. I have Leather, Frogspawn, Torches, Zoas, and Mushrooms in my tank. A few fine algae have grown on the live rock that I put in the aquarium. The API phosphate test kit read my phosphate levels at zero, but since microalgae were present, I knew the test kit simply couldn't measure phosphate levels that low. I put Fosguard in the RECOMMENDED quantity bag for a 30 gallon aquarium. So far I can say that the unpleasant seaweed has become much less and only 3 days have passed. I'm pretty sure people having trouble with this product are using the wrong dosage and adding too much. This material reduces phosphate levels so well that you can shock the coral if the phosphate levels change too quickly. I've also noticed that the corals now feel better as they open up even more and the flares expand even further.
