Even after installing the Debian drivers according to the Debian site, I've had trouble getting this adapter to work reliably. I was able to connect to my Linksys wireless router but the ping time was very long >1000ms and timed out 90% of the time. Instead, I would recommend Buffalo AirStation N150 (Revain part number B003ZM17RA) (WLI-UC-GNM part number) or PandaWireless (Revain part number B00762YNMG) (PAU03 part number). I can't speak for other Linux distros, but with Debian Wheezy this card had the same connectivity issues along with all other Realtek based cards I've tried. After switching to a Ralink based card, my connection was stable and responsive.
