Review on Crosley Retro Bluetooth Boombox Cassette Player CT201A-BK with AM/FM Radio, Bass Boost - Black by Sam Anez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks good but meh box

Well it looks like an old-school ghetto blaster. Sounds ok, the full range speakers aren't bad and the magnets are quite large compared to some of the original units I've serviced. I've attached some photos of the internals so those curious can see if there are indeed tweeters in there and how they're put together. This is not a complete technical overview; I just wanted old school radio for nostalgia. I've included a short video clip to show a sound sample and see the counters in action. I haven't tried the cassette department since I threw away all my cassettes years ago. The humidity in the south ruined their crates. I've tried USB, FM radio and Bluetooth, everything works fine. I will mainly use the FM radio and Bluetooth functions. The Bluetooth connection was fast and without problems. (-) • No tape counter • No backlight • No tape mirror window • No tweeters • Radio tuning knob not working properly • 1 mic only • Must be playing VOLUME volume to see VU meter. Level meter works (+)• Looks great• Sounds good• Works as advertised • Has bass/treble controls and bass boost switch• Has some weight, doesn't feel cheap• Bluetooth, USB/SD/Aux inputs• Portable when loaded with 6 D cells I can add some piezo tweeters and LED lighting for later. Playing back a blank tape with no recorded music has a lot of background noise and occurs during pauses in the recorded music. I don't have any pre-recorded music cassettes to try out. (+) Recording from all sources (except the internal microphone) is in stereo mode. The radio recording sounds good. Automatically stop recording and playback works. (-) No autostop in fast forward or rewind mode. Fast forwarding or rewinding may seem a little slow, but it works. When recording with Bluetooth, there is a lot of background noise in addition to the noise. .I haven't tried the SD card slot but I suspect it uses the same circuitry as USB.Overview:Suitable for radio, bluetooth, USB and appearance. Not recommended for recording on Type I cassettes (regular). !
