We have two dogs so I bought a couple of these in addition to the $30 color change dog we got from REI. In terms of strength and functionality I would say they are the same (except for the color changing part which is pretty cool but not required for basic security). They differ in that I found out the battery was dead on a Monday morning after walking the dogs in the dark every weekday morning and leaving them outside for the weekend (but not on the fancy REI). I don't find it that impractical. Just charge it at the weekend. But I will say that it annoyed me that they use micro USB ports for charging. I just did a cable clean and got rid of all my micro usb cables. Of course it was the cable, but come on dude. This standard is obsolete. Don't force us to keep this type of cable anymore.
