I bought two of these, one for my car and one for my pickup. As others have said, it's slightly larger than a standard cigarette lighter socket. So I had a hard time getting it to work in a pickup that has the cigarette lighter in a retractable ashtray. I had to make some big changes to get it working. However, on my car I was able to push really hard and screw it into the existing hole in the plastic dashboard. It was so tight I didn't bother putting the plastic nut on the back. Both charge my phone fairly quickly, much better than cheap adapters which don't charge as fast as your phone drains when using GPS. I'm happy and satisfied to see the battery voltage on my car, a 2009 Honda that doesn't have an ammeter on the dash. I removed the small plastic cover and left it open the entire time.
