Review on Solder Fume Extractor Filtration System πŸ”§ for Enhanced Soldering - Industrial Power Tools by Eduardo Reyes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A little noisy. Yellow looks like a toy.

I have a $2,000 Weller hood at work, but I've neglected my home workbench for too long. I do not wish to compare these two products as I am certain that this product is not intended for the commercial market. This little MUIN is very similar to a homemade cupcake fan, it's not very noisy and creates an effective draft if you place it close enough. The design is a bit simplistic and while they provide you with a tool to open the filter compartment, you can simply press on the bottom of the device and remove the cover. The activated charcoal is suspended in plastic honeycombs that leave a decent amount of free air above the charcoal. It looks like the filter media needs to be horizontal instead of vertical to filter properly. I'm not very sure about the effectiveness of this filter to properly remove all the contaminants you get while soldering. I do not have a test device to measure the air performance of this filter and there are no claims in the product description to disprove. It's easy to argue that having at least one filter is better than none at all, and it does a good job. so the fumes don't hit you directly in the face.

Pros
  • REMOVES IRRITING ODOR. Thanks to the 3-stage filter, the fume extractor effectively absorbs and captures fumes from solder, flux, chemicals, gases and effortlessly eliminates unpleasant odors in work areas.
Cons
  • Not sure
