I had some very small scratches on my BMW rear window from scraping off shoe polish painted track numbers contaminated with sand and gravel. You could feel the scratches with your finger, but you had to look straight ahead to see the scratches, at which point they became very noticeable. In bright sunlight you didn't even have to look closely to see them. I bought 150ml CarPro Ceriglass Polish and CarPro Viscose glass polish. Using a Porter Cable 7424 D/A Polisher set at 5, the scratches were completely removed in approximately 30 seconds by buffing each section at medium pressure. I read somewhere online that polishing with some polishes can take *hours* to remove scratches, but this polish, which uses cerium oxide as an abrasive, cuts through scratches quickly and leaves the glass smooth and shiny. Very impressive. Make sure you cycle the polisher on and off when it comes into contact with the glass, or you'll end up with fine splatters of polish all over the car. which is sticky and requires a damp cloth and some elbow grease to remove.
