Good price, not a huge performance increase for me

I ordered these wheels as an upgrade for my Cervelo S5 bike with aluminum wheels. These discs came quickly and were well packaged. Installation was easy with the right tool. They've got about 500 miles on them now and overall I'm happy, but there are a couple of things I want to comment on. The comparative cost of these wheels is good. For around $350 you get a decent set of wheels that are reasonably well made and look very nice (mine has the muted black-on-black Superteam logo). I have the lower profile 38mm version of this wheel but still noticed more crosswind resistance than my previous wheelset, possibly due to the lighter weight of the carbon fiber material. So just plan to buy some decent valve extenders if you have hoses with short valve stems. Perhaps the most problematic issue I've had was with caliper rim brakes. Although the Superteam includes specific rim brake pads for use with these particular wheels, I have found that they brake significantly less (slower and less consistently) than my old aluminum rim Shimano brakes. Significant. If you brake frequently at high speed, I think you will be disappointed. That latter point is more annoying than having to do with safety or performance, but the hub in the rear wheel makes a pretty loud rattling noise and while some say they've gotten used to it over time, I still haven't gotten the hang of it used to it after a few months. It just sounds cheap. So would I buy again? Probably not. There was no quantum leap in terms of performance for me and my bike, braking problems, noise and susceptibility to side winds ultimately make this experiment short-lived for me.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Has some quirks
