Review on Franklin Sports MLB Heavy Duty Rubber Base Set - 4 White Throw ⚾ Down Bases - Baseball, Softball, Kickball Home Plate & Bases with Waffle Bottom Construction by Jay Williams

Great temporary coaster set for kids and pickup play

For the $20 I paid for the full set (without rubber strips), I'm very happy with the weight and quality of the base. Each base probably weighs a few pounds and seems very solid. Much better than the really thin light flimsy base. On a level hall floor, they hold in place much better due to their weight. They handle grass well and are great toss in the trunk to play with the kids (or their friends) or at a family picnic. I think if you really need those bases to get stuck in the grass I would recommend buying a white webbing that is 3/4" or 1" wide and about 17" long. Use a polyamide -Webbing and some spikes to hold the webbing to the base. You don't want to pierce rubber bases as this puncture tends to tear more and more.My boys are only 5 and 7 so are fine.If you play a lot of grass I have to maybe see franklin do the same set in neon/orange the orange color will help make the bases in the grass a little more visible and probably make them a little more visible if the guys continue to show interest in baseball i will invest in a stronger home plate with 3-5 spikes as you age so the home plate is thicker/heavier and stays in place during exercise These rubber plates are designed to form strong "tongues" on the outside. Bases There are small ones Holes in the ledges so you can use small spikes to attach the bases to the grass. For the home plate, use three cleats, you can have cleats on the front corners and the back end. For other bases, you can use four, but have at least two ledges on opposite corners.

Pros
  • Standard coaster
Cons
  • Requires base
