Our house is EXTREMELY damp this summer after installing a new roof. This is madness. The dehumidifier has stopped working so I'm waiting for it to arrive, but it won't be there for a week. Before we realized the basement dehumidifier wasn't working properly, we bought it to help with the upstairs humidity. The hygrometer said it's 84% humidity in here (that's awful and the carpet is damp so I need another dehumidifier ASAP but won't be back for the next 5 days ugh), anyway, with all the humidity you would think these things would have worked, but nothing happened at all and we've had it for exactly 10 days. As soon as they arrived I removed the foil and closed the lid. Not sure what the woven basket lid is for. Despite everything, they did nothing. None of them contain liquid. I think they helped with every odor, but other than that, they haven't had a drop of moisture for a week and a half. Adding charcoal seemed like a good idea, but we used a large bucket of regular Damp Rid in the basement and it absorbed the moisture fairly quickly. Not sure why not. If you want them to control the smell, do so. If you want them to control humidity, I don't think they are for that. I give 3 stars for odor protection and 0 stars for moisturizing.
