I choose the one (for a few bucks) that's already assembled because I'm lazy and busy. Well, it just wasn't what I wanted to do. I use these (pre-fitted) filters on my daughter's 5 gallon tank and they work great. Not as much. Rinse before use, replace the old filter with a new one. Or, if you're just starting out, hook it up to the pump unit. She only has 1 fish so I don't have to change this filter often. 4-5 weeks instead of 3-4 weeks. When it comes to these filters, I choose the best price. I'm glad I found her here. Stores ask for more and are not always my size.
