I wanted to get a Ryzen 3 2200G first because I wanted to save some money on my first build. I've wanted to build a computer for five years, so this was a good opportunity to do so. When I got the parts and put everything together, everything came alive. The processor was fast, responsive and everything looked so smooth. I grossly underestimated the processor since it only had two cores, but I was very impressed with the performance of this processor. I was used to typing in front of the system and I had to catch up, I was used to watching YouTube videos at 480p and it was STILL slow, I was used to waiting about ten seconds to open Chrome. Once I built this computer with an Athlon processor, everything became so easy. There was no "OK, let me get a bottle of water from the fridge while I wait for it to open." No, it was just a simple click, and it all happened right here and now, the way computers normally work should. As far as gaming goes, it's perfect for getting started. If you combine this with a decent graphics card and get at least 8GB of system RAM (unlike me because I have 4GB of RAM) you can get pretty decent gaming performance. There really wouldn't be anything left until the end of the system's life, but this is an option to do so. I'd recommend the AMD RX 580, the perfect amount of VRAM for the rest of your gaming needs, and it doesn't have too bad clock speeds compared to the integrated graphics. Just buy a good graphics card and at least 8GB of system memory and you're good to go. I wouldn't recommend staying on the CPU for too long, at least try to get at least a Ryzen 3. Otherwise, the Athlon would be an absolute MUST even for simple office work. Even if you're just browsing the web, that's fine. You can even watch 4K videos on YouTube, which is amazing considering I'm used to 480p. It would be hard NOT to start with this processor.
