I've had a few hiking hats that required cordlocks instead of simple hollow beads to tighten their rawhide or cotton cords around the chin. I bought this set of 3 different cord locks and they work great keeping the hat secure even in high winds. I have used these hats several times so far and no breakages or problems. The only complaint I have is that the "approximate" hole sizes given are much larger than the actual clearance hole size, i.e. the maximum drill bit size that can go through each lock. Actual maximum drill sizes are: 1) .1375" elliptical cord lock, 2) .200" barrel lock, and 3) .185" round lock. The reason a cylinder lock has the largest clearance hole is because the hole in its plunger fits perfectly. with holes in the cylinder body when pushed, while on the other two locks the plunger doesn't go down far enough to line up the holes! Luckily I found the cylinder lock was big enough for my thickest rawhide cords and the round lock worked well on some others, so I didn't have to send them back. :)
