Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ 010480 Cell Saver Battery Insulation Kit for Design Engineering by Thomas Chalecki

Good but does not cover the top of the battery

If you see my attached picture please note that despite my attached picture this kit does not include a way to close the top of the battery. Read the details below. This worked well to wrap MOST of my Audi S3's battery, but it didn't cover the top or bottom of my battery (except for the non-reflective piece of felt that holds the battery on the tray). So I used an extra thermal barrier I already had from another project (Thermo-Tec 13575) to put the flip cover on top of the DE insulation kit and also put a piece of it under the felt on the battery compartment. Since uprated engines (both turbocharged and supercharged) generate more heat than naturally aspirated engines and I also use Stage 2 Tune, when my battery unexpectedly died recently I was concerned that the extra heat being generated in my engine compartment my battery wears out prematurely. My other car is a supercharged Jaguar XFR (also tuned) but it has functional vents on the hood and fenders to dissipate a significant amount of heat AND the battery is in the trunk where it should be (both for better weight distribution as well as for heat protection). ). Unfortunately, Audi, in their boundless wisdom, placed my S3's battery very close to my turbo (which thrives in heat) in the engine bay. Cut holes in a body or do something too aggressive (I already have an upgraded intercooler etc.). I also considered moving the S3's battery to the trunk, but even with the spare tire removed, there was no place to hide it. So I settled on this battery isolation kit and also added a turbo blanket and wrapped the top of my downpipe to try and fix some overheating damage. I haven't checked the temperature of the battery before and after installation since installing one of these, but I probably will soon as one of my concerns is that this insulation kit might actually trap heat in the kit rather than the battery properly to let breathe. Although I have no real scientific reason to doubt the functionality of this kit other than the lack of a reflective screen for the top and bottom. If I verify this I will edit my review accordingly.
