I used this to remove the oil filter housing on my mother's 2015 Mercedes GLK 350 (I think that this is the correct order for the model). I've seen other reviews that the square hole at the top is flat for the socket. You are right. You cannot fully insert the socket wrench and then slide it onto the filter housing. The socket wrench pops out. So I did the following: Put the filter puller on the oil filter housing. Then use a small extension (not a locking ball) and put it into the square hole of the puller and hold it in place. Then slowly turn the socket wrench attached to the extension until it loosens the filter housing. The filter housing is removed immediately, slowly at first to avoid slipping off the housing.
