I bought this extension to get the same "just one cable" effect you get with a MacBook made LG 4K Ultra Fine monitor with my existing not-so-fancy monitor. I've attached the Apple USB-C Multiport Digital AV Adapter to the back of my monitor and connected the power, HDMI and USB devices to it so everything is out of sight, then I run this extension out the side so everything what I need to plug into my 2017 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is an extension cable. Unexpected bonus: the cable matches *perfectly* the "space grey" color of my car. However, like others, I had a bit of trouble initially Power support - Video could not be streamed through the attached adapter. However, I eventually found that for some reason the orientation (which side up) of the cable plug matters. It also seems to matter which ones mine 4 MacBook USB-C ports I plug in the cable, but now that the connector's seam is facing down and the cable is plugged into the left port facing the screen is closest to hirm, it works perfectly and stably every time.
