I have two 27" 2011 Apple Cinema Displays and wanted to connect them to my new 2019/2020 Mac Pro which is coming soon. I also have a pair of MacBook Pros with USBC /Thunderbolt connectors. I took the cable out of the box, hooked it up to the display cable, hooked it up to one of my MacBook Pros - worked GREAT. I then plugged the monitor's USB cable into a USB 2 -> USB C ( Plugged in the Apple) cable, plugged it into my laptop, the security camera on the monitor worked flawlessly, rarely does anything work so easily out of the box.
