As I had been using Tamron lenses, I began searching for a native lens that would work with my D50. At first, I planned on purchasing a Canon EF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM lens; however, after further consideration, I decided against it. After reading the evaluations, I gained some perspective and realized that it is still designed for full-frame cameras, although I use a crop sensor. Then I came upon this lens; the pricing, of course, threw me off because it doesn't appear to be L, but it actually costs more. Once more, I went back and read the reviews. At first, I was hesitant due to the fact that some users did not have everything going smoothly with the build quality and electronics. However, after looking at years' worth of reviews, it appeared that manufacturers were able to eliminate many defects during this time. In general, I made the decision and purchased. After the very first shots, an internal voice that mumbled, "Why did you pay so much, it's not even L!" was silenced. What can I say? Photos that are crisp and clear, with accurate color reproduction. Separately, I was pleased with how accurate the autofocus was. You are able to take pictures without having to think about where the focus will REALLY be, which was something that frequently occurred when using a Tamron lens.
