My family was looking for a new grill and my friend showed me the 12 portion (rectangular) version which I was very impressed with. We've had George Foreman grills in the past and I couldn't stand them because they seemed to spoil the flavor of your food. However, it seems to have been a welcome product that I was looking forward to from George Foreman. Being a family of four and living in the North East we didn't have much space to store a regular outdoor grill or use it in the winter so we went with this one. We liked that it was big enough for our family, could be used both indoors and outdoors, and from what I saw it worked pretty well without us having to worry about buying propane. Here are the advantages: 1. There is no gas and you save some money. You can't go wrong if you don't have a gas grill.2. Heats up quickly, usually within 3-5 minutes.3. It cooks thoroughly and keeps everything moist and juicy. (It takes a while to get used to the temporary settings, but after that it's not a problem.) In my opinion, the imperfections are why it's been kept in our basement for the past year or so. I wish I had ended up with the 12 serving version. I've cooked 10 people with this thing and it's basically the only time I use it now. Otherwise, cooking becomes a major hassle for our family of 4 unless I cook all the food on it. Here are the cons; 1. Cleaning is a pain. It's not that it's difficult to clean, but it barely fits in the sink due to its round shape. The biggest problem is cleaning the lid, which I think would be a lot easier with the 12-serving version.2. The cable should be longer. Not much, maybe a few meters. I always have to use an extension cord.3. If you plan to use this in your kitchen and don't have a lot of desk space, good luck. Again, its circular design takes up more space than necessary. I usually have to put it on the stove, which limits my use of the stove.4. The lubrication channel in the middle is necessary but annoying. If the drains are clogged at the end, all the fat just flows down the gutter. Anything you put in the central area will be soaked and hardened by whatever flows in dripping pain. Of course, you'll want to limit food placement in the center, but design doesn't always allow for that. Speaking of lube, don't forget the swamp! Once I cooked bacon and forgot to put on the drip tray. It's very easy to forget because it's hidden in the bottom grille. I didn't notice until a puddle of fat formed on the floor. Needless to say, scrubbing bacon out of every crevice on this thing and off the floor wasn't on my to-do list that day. Hand-formed hamburger patties seem impossible to make. I'm a guy who loves to make my own fresh cakes with different ingredients. Thick patties are so moist to the touch that they fall apart and take much longer to cook than on a conventional grill. Thin patties seem to get stuck in the grill channels when grilled and fall apart when flipped. Adding texture enhancing ingredients doesn't seem to help either. If you like stuffed burgers this is not the grill you want to buy. Overall I think the grill does its job and works for those who can't have a gas grill. I would recommend trying the 12 portion grill first to see if it's best for you. I can only imagine that it is much easier to use, store and clean both indoors and outdoors. But as soon as I have the money and the space, I will definitely go back to the gas grill. The taste can't be beat and this grill just doesn't compare to the practice of a real grill. Hope that helps!
