Thought I'd try this straightener to curl my hair even though my hair is naturally curly. I chose the tightest curls because other, looser curls would look more like my natural waves and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The crimping/straightening machine comes with the flattening plates installed and three additional crimping plates for tight, medium and light crimps. First, changing plates is quite difficult. You need to look at the included instructions. Second, it mentions a lightbulb (which is on by default for wattage and maximum setting) that goes out when it gets hot enough. I kept seeing the power light flickering in and out, not knowing if that was the light he was talking about. This is not specified in the instructions. After waiting about 5 minutes I saw the power light was off so I figured it must be the light they are talking about and it's ready. I mean they say it's for thick hair (which I have) but it never gets hot enough to get the job done. The description says it hits 320-480 but that's a lie. Only goes up to 220 (indicated on the crimping/straightening machine). He recommends running the curling iron/straighteners through your hair, but that doesn't work with the curling iron. I used the highest setting and left it on each section for about 10 seconds (until I started seeing smoke coming out and didn't want to leave it on any longer as it could damage my hair). Then I went down the length of each strand of hair (each strand was left for 10 seconds). I show the results in a couple of close-ups and then a photo of curly hair on one side and my naturally normal wavy hair on the other. Although the ridged side looks smoother, that's about it. I don't think I'll see better results with medium or looser crimps. It should have a higher temperature regime. I'm disappointed.
