I installed this on a 2003 Ford Ranger to replace the mechanical cooling fan. Installation is detailed, but if you have DIY wiring skills you should be fine. The fan "growls" at startup, which some fans complain about. I use a fan. I gave it 4 stars because the speedometer needle jumps momentarily when the fan starts. Not sure yet if this is controller related - we're still checking. The connections must be made directly to the battery. There are some assumptions during the installation as the instructions are very simple. Update 10/30/2017: I downgraded the star rating because speedo spikes are still occurring and Flex-a-Lite doesn't seem willing to help fix this issue. Also, the manual switch wiring instructions are incorrect. You need a 12V source, but the controller port actually needs to be grounded through the switch as it outputs a 12V signal. Grounding turns the fan on or off depending on the function you want it to have.
