As long as you use less than half of the drive you're fine

I was trying to copy my MP3 collection from my 500GB external drive to one of the 50+GB drives, not exactly 64GB. I got about 27GB out of 30GB and the drive disappeared from explorer. I reinstalled the USB device and it came back, then tried copying to it again and poof, gone again. I reformatted and copied about 20GB and the problems started again. It's slow and my music pauses during playback. I bought about 8GB from another seller and they all worked fine even at 85% capacity. I would never attach anything important to any of them.
