Review on Olympus V207080BU000 OM D E M1X by Monica Satchell

Photography has been my hobby for about 20 years. I switched from DSLR to mirrorless about 3 years ago when mirrorless became equal or even better than DSLR. I currently have Sony A7R3, Canon EOS R5 and Panasonic G9 + lots of lenses. I bought this Olympus camera with Olympus 300mm f4 PRO lens as I needed a lightweight (non FF) trail camera to use when I don't want to carry around a full frame Canon plus a huge 500mm f4 lens /can and I chose to use an Olympus body to have dual IS with the Olympus lens. So, everything about mirrorless cameras is that you need a good electronic viewfinder to be able to enjoy the camera. All major brands have been using high definition OLED EVF for more than 5 years. Except for Olympus probably, which I learned the hard way. This is their best latest model and when I got it I felt like it was 2015 and I'm using a Sony Nex 6. I can't believe Olympus put this crappy outdated cheap low resolution LCD. Electronic viewfinder in their flagship camera. Even the 3 year old (and half the price) Panasonic G9 has OLED and twice the resolution. Not to mention the other cameras you can buy with that money. In conclusion, for mirrorless cameras you need a decent electronic viewfinder. A good EVF doesn't make a good camera, but a bad EVF can ruin even the best camera. So here. It may indeed be a great camera for anyone who needs to use lighting equipment (compared to FF of course), but having an old electronic viewfinder with almost no contrast is like buying a great sports car and painting the windscreen black . I returned it with great regret that such a good idea for a good camera was ruined by Olympus for no good reason other than maybe greed.
