Really nice trees

This was a fun and very easy project. The build was pretty quick and it didn't take long for some of the changes to be visible, which is great for kids who hate waiting. Each tree consists of two pieces of cardboard. You simply put them together and unfold the branches a little. The branches are all quite thin and it can be a bit difficult for small children to separate them, but it won't take long even if you have to help them. I will say that I don't think I separated ours far enough because once the liquid started soaking into the wood they kind of came back together. When you've cooked them all, simply place them in the bowl and fill with liquid. We just sat down to eat with trees in front of us to watch the food. It was a good lesson because as we sat there we could see the water climbing up the trunk of the tree and making its way to the branches. The instructions state that you will start flowering after 15-30 minutes. It was pretty accurate, although I think ours was closer to 30. Back then they were just tiny flowers, but every time we went and came back to check on them, they got a lot bigger. I think they all flowered very nicely and looked very pretty. After the trees grew, some of the flowers started to fall off. We really just turned this into a whole discussion about all of the seasons and it only took us 24 hours to see them all! Note: This is a very simple and fun project, but it's mostly observation. You won't have a cute Christmas tree to carry around or display when all is said and done. It's not a toy, but kids will still love looking at and talking about it. "Crystals" are unlike any crystals I've seen before. They are very soft and fluffy. If you ingest one, you can just crush it with your fingers into what looks like a powder. If you try to move or touch the trees, there is a high probability that at least some of the flowers will fall. You can also tip it over very easily. I recommend putting trees on top of everything to catch any potential clutter. We used a cutter. I felt like I wanted to use the fallen flowers for something. We shook them all out of the trees and the kids just played with them for a while. Flatten them, press and blend all the colors together. I wanted to put some glue on top of the paint but couldn't find any glue so I settled on white paint. I just took some paint, sprinkled flowers on it and mixed it up. It just gave us a lightly textured light color. This wasn't unusual, but it gave them the opportunity to use beautiful flowers. We could also just use a glue stick and sprinkle them with glitter. We had a lot of fun with them and I think they are definitely worth checking out.
