Essential dryer vent accessory

This great accessory now replaces my louvered vent. I live in Minneapolis and the winters are cold, sometimes VERY cold. One thing I particularly noticed last winter was that the metal duct on the dryer in my basement laundry room felt pretty cold. Over the past year I've made a number of improvements to the house related to waterproofing and air insulation. All the work paid off, but when it came to dryer ventilation and how I could reduce the cold outside air coming into the house, I was a bit perplexed. Until I found this. Knowing that UV light would eventually destroy the plastic, I began preparing it for painting. I used a steel wool to scratch the surface and then sprayed it with whatever plastic paint I had on hand. This paint serves as a primer for a matte outdoor latex paint to be applied later in the summer. After application, the color of the vent is the same as the house color and does not stand out like the attached pictures. I constructed a 3/4 inch thick pine spacer to create a completely flat surface at the base of the bend that makes a strong connection to the house siding. Also, I removed the mounting bracket from the removable panel because the siding slope didn't allow the countertop to sit properly. It doesn't matter, because the table top fits very well and is securely sealed by simply pressing it in. I have no concerns about the top chamber or cover detaching in high winds or storms. You have to pull it really hard to dislodge it from the base of the elbow. Highly recommended. It's not cheap, but it's the best I've seen for this job. It's summer now so I can't say if it completely stops ambient air getting in, but judging by the design I'm pretty sure it will do the trick.
