Great gift idea, I thought of this for my wife who just got the bar to finish our living room. The blue backlight is dim so the area is not illuminated at night. The tools are very easy to use and opening a wine bottle is EASIER than ever. Our friends can't get past the system and they all want to try it out. I love this thing, now my wife doesn't ruin the wine by trying to take the cork out. Best aerator and sealer. It pumps out excess air and corks the bottle. I don't know, but I can say that I didn't notice that the wine lost its taste, even though I'm not a wine connoisseur. In any case, a great product to buy and use or give away. I don't know about the battery life, it is charged at the base. I haven't had it in a very long time. again I don't know
