I have an Epson XP400, and yes, the printer was inexpensive, about 70.00. If I had known the following important details, I would have shelled out more for different / better printer. The printer itself is adequate for small batch, normal quality stuff. That's IT.1. If you run out of ONE ink--be it yellow, magenta, blue, or black, the printer refuses to let you print anything. I am in this position right now, where I don't care if I need to print it out in magenta, I just need to print something out! But I can't. Because I ran out of black, and the stupid thing won't compensate with other colors. Some printers will do this. Not this one.2. The ink cartridges are small, expensive for what you get, and they run out very very fast. I think I may have gotten about forty pages. You get even less if you print or make copies of things with pictures. I suspect that cartridges actually have more ink in them, but the chip probably stops after a certain quantity has been used (but not ALL). Hell, I remember a kick ass Brother printer, where, I just pulled the toner out, shook it around, put it back in and the machine would continue to print on every last little bit of ink. Also, it is true that you CANNOT use a cheaper, generic cartridge (unless you're a pissed-off genius who jerry-rigged this pile of rubbish).3. I can't say how many times I've needed to print out something that needed to look very professional, and it came out crooked. The support 'brace' that holds the paper in the back actually loosens somehow and doesn't keep the paper straight. It's not like I have a herd of miniature buffalo roaming around bumping into the table it's on--so why the loose support brace and why the crooked printing, Epson? Why?That's probably enough for now. Guess I better buy some more ink and hope the blue doesn't run out. I will not buy another Epson printer; in fact, I wouldn't take one for free at this point, knowing I have to shell out twice the amount in a year for ink. Don't even buy this for your grandmother who occasionally prints out recipes for beer-boiled sausages from Cousin Fred, it'll be you running to Staples for Magenta!
