Review on Califone 1886 Multimedia Cassette Recorder by Jim Bethea

I bought this as a gift for my wife who works as a traveling gym teacher and never knows exactly what audio equipment she will find in a specific location. I thought a player designed for classroom teacher use would be durable and suitable for them too. I was impressed by the versatility of the device. This allows input from AM/FM radio, CDs, flash drives, memory cards and any device (e.g. iPod) that can be connected via USB. The weight and size are suitable for easy transport. It's solidly built (except perhaps for the carrying handle, which I find a little flimsy and is the reason for four stars instead of five); The speakers are protected by metal (not plastic) shields to keep them intact, which is important on a frequently moved machine. The sound quality might not impress an audiophile, but it's more than adequate for the settings this player is likely to run. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, easy-to-use, and versatile player.
