Review on Efficient and Convenient: X-ACTO KS Manual Vacuum Mount Pencil Sharpener for Precision Sharpening by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I should have gotten a sharpener a long time ago

I wanted a pencil sharpener that was easier to use than the ones I have - it twists pencils so much. I want to do less of this. I got the X-Acto a vacuum mounted sharpener rather than a screw mounted sharpener because I don't want to get up every time my pencil gets too dull, which is surprisingly often. First, the vacuum mount works very well. I wish the suction shower and shower hook worked almost as well. When I pull the sharpener's trigger to move it, I have to pull off a corner of the rubber base to actually release it. Sometimes it sticks to the table just because I put it on. The sharpener should be smooth, hard and non-porous. For example, it does not stick to untreated wood or does not stick for long. (I've tried gluing it to different things why not) I'm really happy with its construction. It is an all-metal construction except for the hand crank and suction cup. My chip tray doesn't wobble at all, which seems to have happened to a few people. When the sharpener is in place, it doesn't wobble at all. The odd thing about this sharpener, which works great with regular pencils but would make me think twice about using it with expensive crayons, is that it sharpens into a very long point all at once. steep corner. I photographed pencils being sharpened with my hand sharpeners and this sharpener. Unfortunately, the photos do not clearly show how long and thin the sharpened part has become after using the X-Acto. If you use it on colored pencils with soft or brittle leads, the lead will most likely break off as you draw. Pencils sharpened with X-Acto stay sharp longer than normal due to the large angle, but the soft lead will likely be too thin to handle. I'll try, but when my Prismacolors start cracking there's no more sharpening for them. As for graphite pencils, I will definitely use X-Acto.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

This is a good basic vacuum based sharpener that is a very good value for the money
