After buying and refusing a cheap, flimsy flash arm from Cowboy Studios that could drop my flash, I did a little more research and decided to spend more money to get a Buying a Phottix device I couldn't be happier. From the moment I opened the box and caught a glimpse of this sturdy metal device, I knew I made the right decision. The lower section is securely attached to the lamppost, and a removable adapter allows mounting on smaller diameter poles. The shade opening is wide enough to accommodate any light modifier I currently have and the clip prevents that it slips or wobbles. The hot shoe is strong and attaches securely to the flash. The pan/tilt mechanism allows you to change the angle of the top. I wish the mechanism was in a different spot so you could rotate both the flash and umbrella independently, but that's easily overcome. There's even a hole for the included clamp, so you can hang some sort of cargo or bag to stow gear, or add more weight to stabilize the rack and reduce the chance of it tipping over. If you've spent a significant sum on your flash, flash trigger, light stand, umbrella or softbox, don't compromise on a cheap hot shoe mount.
