Replaced our 2002 Acura MDX Front Struts with decent Monroe parts for $116,000. The OEM springs were reused. At about 135 km, the struts were softer, leaner in corners and excessive dive under braking. It was easy to drop the front end over slight bumps. The strut gas struts are still fine only the springs have aged so there is a lot more front end movement which doesn't inspire confidence in a normal ride. At 153km I replaced the rear shocks as they were stock but that didn't improve overall handling much. I have considered replacing the front struts and springs with new parts, but there is no guarantee that the new springs will provide a stiffer ride. I'm not keen on spending $600 or more to replace the frames for just a minor upgrade. After a bit of research, I found that the RubberShox was an easy fix worth trying to recreate a higher spring rate. The MDX coil gap (vehicle above) is 1.90-2.00 inches, so I chose the DuraTPE-A size which has an H2 of 1.85. According to RubberShox and other reviews, H2 should equal the coil spacing for optimal performance, but fitting spacers can be very difficult when these sizes are close together (DO NOT choose H2 larger than the coil spacing as this is close to impossible). To install). As it turned out I had no issues with size A and they fit perfectly. Yes, it took some effort and WD-40, but if you follow the directions and work slowly, insert the gasket into the spool, holding the top groove fully and slowly popping the bottom groove out of the spool as you go. , then it works great. I didn't cut the shim in any way, but used a wooden handle to get extra leverage to allow the bottom groove of the shim to "pop" over the spool at various points. After that, this RubberShox pad fits perfectly as you can see in the photos. I slowly moved the spacers towards the top of the strut so that they were somewhat hidden in the strut support cavity. Total front lift is about half an inch and now looks like the original OEM height. Improving ride and handling is like buying a brand new car! You'd think the ride would be bumpy, but it's not - bumps are softer and the chassis feels manageable again. There is no longer excessive bank in corners and nose roll under braking is minimal. I would say the car drives as well or even better than new. Such a simple and economical solution! Try this solution if your feathers are feeling soft or worn out, this is a great product.
