We didn't have a crossbar but bought a non slip mat. 1000 miles plus during the outer lanes of the hurricane it has held up very well, will try it on our next mini trip. It contained all things and more. Now the waterproof part. Yes, it is not 100% waterproof. But everything in front of him got a little wet. and there was water. It doesn't fold up as easily as most things and fits in a pocket. but worth the money and useful
