We have a few adjoining rooms designated as "dog" areas for the kittens to rest and to store some things that don't need to be explored or covered with dog saliva. We tried so many creative solutions but put off installing gates because most of them are ugly and/or bulky. One of our girls is a 60 pound beagle who figured out every hook and chain combination we tried and recently figured out how to move a bench that's blocking the door. goal time. It's time for THIS gate, which looks gorgeous (thanks for suggesting the black version!) and is pretty easy to install. Our house is old and the doors are wide so we are of different sizes. It took a bit of tweaking and fiddling, but after about 15 minutes I had everything set up just the way I wanted it. One odd thing I couldn't figure out was that the underside of the hinge refuses to sit flat on the floor. I've tried all sorts of tightening strategies, but to securely attach the gate, this corner is simply raised about a quarter of an inch. You still have to climb over the bottom guide (which I keep forgetting and tripping over twice) so it really doesn't matter in the end. One of the reviewers had problems with the gate latch: you need to fine-tune the tightness. . Too loose and your gate will not engage. Too tight and won't open. Just be patient and experiment (and leave the zip tie on!) The clasp takes a little practice and to be honest it feels a little flimsy to me but we'll see how long it lasts. The gate isn't entirely stationary either - just because the adjustable legs rest on the protruding part of the post, Hazel can't adjust it when she's trying to get into the room (and also because she doesn't realize she's d luckier have when pulling). That's good, but not as secure as I was hoping. It doesn't harm our wood, I'm grateful for that. What I dislike the most is that our cats have to jump over it to get into the dog free rooms which is not possible for one of our little boys. So I have to leave it open at night or when the dogs are somewhere else. If a lane were a bit further apart for the cat to squeeze through, that would be ideal. I like it at the moment. Looks good and does what it's supposed to do (so far). Unfortunately, one of our furry family members is not there to protect. All in all, this is a great goal!
