So I ordered both as I found my hair didn't curl as well with the big one. I don't think 1in has worked well for my hair type. If you have thin and thin hair. 1 inch will be for you. I have very thick hair and I know I can learn with more. It keeps my hair tamed in this heat when 1 inch didn't. The only thing I don't like is how easy it is to turn on the heat settings. I would like a control lock. I also wish the 1 1/4" had the same locking function as the 1". Update: The 1" straightener broke the locking feature. Turning it to higher settings works better, but I would prefer bigger hardware on lower settings. Too much heat on hair isn't good.
