They're great for holding work in place, and they're strong and durable enough to actually do some of the work that causes many mini vises to slip. or move. The lower height on this base is a big improvement for workbench jobs that may involve soldering, painting or filing. It's stable enough on its own with just enough weight not to fall off or tip over with little effort, but it's easy to bolt on or buy one of the other wider baseplates they offer.
