They work. Fair price. I fiddled with the charcoal insert and found that the lid came loose so the charcoal could be replaced. Also for this type of filter, the picture shows that there are ventilation holes between the bio sand (I mainly replaced lava rock) and the filament filter. Not this case. I just drilled a few holes in the plastic part. Works better for the river. Another mod is that I removed the 90 degree top from an angled filter I bought (the filter is too big for my nano tank) and put it on top of the filter. Works and draws large bubbles inside. This helps with splashes from the water surface. The mod below uses quilted cotton instead of the thin "foam" that comes with this filter. Does anyone know of a thin bubble air stone that fits this type of filter?
