The seller says that the heating element is made of stainless steel, which is an important feature for us. It's important to note that the power button provides a safety check as it allows you to find an outlet and plug in the device, and you don't have to worry about instantaneous heat until you're ready to turn on the power button. This makes the device much more practical than other devices that do not have a power switch. Because as soon as you plug it into an outlet, it gets very hot with the switch on. We recommend following the manufacturer's instructions and rubbing the heating element well with vinegar using a clean cloth as this will remove excess metal and debris from the filament. We used citric acid (fresh lemon juice) to clean and this removed quite a bit of the dark gray residue from the initial cleaning prior to use. This device can be conveniently used with a mug or heat-resistant glass that can hold 2.5 cups of water (capacity approximately 600-850ml depending on diameter and height). In our experience, it takes about 10 minutes for 2 cups of room temperature water to quickly boil.
