UPDATE: Bottom line, it works GREAT for beverage cans. Keeps beverage cans very cold for a long time. However, for personal sized soda bottles, it works well as long as you pour about 3/16 inch of water into the cup holder to allow the cold to saturate the bottom of the soda bottle. This will keep them cold enough and even begin to chill them when the soda is halfway down or less. So it's worth adding water as an intermediate medium. BUT water tends to freeze in the cup holder lol. So my original review is still worthy, but with a retrospective look at the water experiment. Without water it's useless for soda bottles (see the original review for details) FIRST REVIEW: This unit does get very cold in the surface of the metal cup holder. The problem is that it's pretty flat, only covering a few inches of the container. With higher containers, a much larger part of the surface of the beverage container is exposed to room temperature (car), so it is lost. Soda bottles don't account for the side of it at all. They do not come into contact with the surface except for the underside. I usually drink Diet Coke from personal-sized bottles because I can keep them sealed, which I can't from a can. They're much larger than cans AND have "legs" on the base (think plastic bottles, not glass) so very little base comes into contact with the cold metal surface of the cup holder walls and base. So it doesn't work very well. I'm going to try adding some water as an experiment to see if that keeps my drink cold as it puts it in contact with the drink indirectly (using the water as a bridge). Of course, driving on water is impractical, but it would still be an interesting experiment. However, this seems to work better for cans as they are shorter and the bottom has better contact with the bottom but keeps them cold a little longer than regular coasters. So it's somewhat helpful. just don't WOW HOLY #$% It's like a micro fridge for my drink!
