Review on HiLetgo Ultrasonic Integrated Transceiver Waterproof by Anthony Heinrichs

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Seems to work fine but detection range is too long

I bought these to try for measuring water levels in tanks as the sensors I use (ASIN B07FQCNXPP) only last a few months and I'm on my 3rd of the ones that just failed. Getting 4 of these HiLetgos for $8 would be a bargain if they worked better and lasted longer. With no useful usage and connection details from the vendor, I hooked one up to a JSN board using the ASIN sensor mentioned above. Bingo it worked but the working distances advertised are a far cry from what was advertised, less than half of what was advertised. Maybe it's the JSN or Sketchboard I'm using (provided on ASIN webpage B07FQCNXPP), but until HiLetgo provides some alternative hardware and software options to use them, that's all I have to use. So the minimum distance is around 30mm and the maximum around 1500mm (1.5m), nothing even comes close to the advertised 3.5m. So if you want to use them for a reversing sensor they might fit, but everything over 1500mm are everywhere. Below is the actual Arduino output sensor cut and pasted pointing to an aluminum plate at a distance of 1.5m = 156cm <<- actual tape measure = 157cm and close enough for my needs. = 417 cmdistance = 157 cmThey will not work on softer surfaces. I have tried a plastic trash can, painted drywall and have not received a refund. Aimed at metal or water surfaces, they appear to reflect and detect perfectly when used at a distance of 0.3m to 1.4m. HiLetgo needs to provide more information on this. I'm a big fan of HiLetgo products, but this one isn't one of them. Hopefully the supplier can sort this out with some work details to get that 3.5M.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power
